Trading Pairs Explained
A trading pair represents two currencies that can be exchanged for each other on ByteExchange.
Base and Quote Currency
Every pair is written as BASE/QUOTE:
- Base currency (left) — The asset you are buying or selling
- Quote currency (right) — The asset you are pricing in
Example: In BTC/USDT, BTC is the base and USDT is the quote. A price of 65,000 means 1 BTC costs 65,000 USDT.
Common Quote Currencies on ByteExchange
| Quote | Description |
|---|---|
| USDT | Tether stablecoin, most popular pair |
| BTC | Bitcoin pairs for altcoin trading |
| ETH | Ethereum pairs |
| EUR | Euro fiat pairs |
| TRY | Turkish Lira fiat pairs |
How to Choose a Trading Pair
- Liquidity — Pairs with higher volume have tighter spreads and less slippage. BTC/USDT and ETH/USDT are the most liquid.
- Your holdings — If you hold USDT, look at /USDT pairs. If you hold BTC, look at /BTC pairs.
- Trading goal — Want to convert between altcoins? You may need to go through BTC or USDT as an intermediary.
Cross Pairs
Some pairs let you trade directly between two altcoins (e.g., ETH/BTC) without needing a stablecoin step. This can save on fees if both assets are in your portfolio.
