When you change a key that protects your account — login password, e-mail address, authenticator app, passkey, fund password or Master Key — ByteExchange pauses withdrawals for a fixed time, usually 24 or 48 hours. The change itself takes effect at once; only money leaving your account waits, so you have time to react if the change was not yours.
Why the pause exists
Someone who gets hold of your mailbox or password would try to change a security setting and withdraw straight away. The pause closes that gap. Every pausing change also sends you a notice (e-mail, in-app notification and Telegram if you connected it), so you hear about it immediately and can lock things down before anything leaves.
Before you confirm a change that pauses withdrawals, the app shows a Withdrawals will be paused notice with the number of hours, so the pause never comes as a surprise.
Which changes pause withdrawals
| Change | Withdrawals paused for |
|---|---|
| Login password changed or reset | 48 hours |
| Master Key changed | 48 hours |
| Master Key reset requested in Settings | 72-hour waiting period, then 48 more hours |
| Master Key recovery started from the recovery page | 72-hour waiting period, then 48 more hours |
| E-mail address changed | 24 hours |
| Two-factor authentication turned off | 24 hours |
| Authenticator app turned on | 24 hours |
| Fund password changed or reset | 24 hours |
| Passkey removed | 24 hours |
| Fund password or passkey added while no authenticator app is on | 24 hours |
| A reset done for you by BEXC Support (2FA, login password, fund password or Master Key) | 48 hours |
If your authenticator app is already on when you add a fund password or a passkey, the app code confirms it is you and withdrawals stay open.
If several pauses overlap, withdrawals reopen when the latest one ends.
Where to see the countdown
- Go to Settings → Security.
- While a pause is active, a Security Cooldowns card appears, showing how many are active.
- Tap View to see each change and the exact time next to Withdrawals blocked until.
The Withdraw screen also checks before you sign anything and tells you which change caused the pause and when withdrawals reopen.
What is paused and what keeps working
Paused until the timer ends:
- Crypto withdrawals
- Fiat withdrawals
- Releasing crypto to the buyer in a P2P order you are selling in
Everything else keeps working: deposits, spot trading, Convert, staking and the rest of your account. Your balance stays exactly where it is.
Tip for P2P sellers: make security changes before you open a sell order, so the release step is ready when your buyer pays.
If you did not make the change
Act straight away: open a ticket from the Help Center (see How to contact support) and describe what you saw. The pause is there to give you exactly this time.
FAQ
How long are withdrawals paused after I change my password?
48 hours from the moment the new password is saved. Changing your e-mail, turning 2FA off or on, or changing your fund password pauses withdrawals for 24 hours.
Where can I see when my withdrawals reopen?
In Settings → Security, open the Security Cooldowns card. It lists each active pause with the exact date and time withdrawals reopen. The card only appears while a pause is active.
Can I still trade during the pause?
Yes. Deposits, spot trading and Convert work as usual. Only withdrawals and P2P crypto releases wait for the timer.
Can the pause be shortened?
The pause runs on its own timer. If you have an urgent need, open a support ticket so the team can review your case. Pauses that come from an account recovery always run their full length.
Why did my saved withdrawal addresses lose their trusted status?
Changing your login password, e-mail, 2FA or a passkey also returns saved addresses to "new", because trust earned with the old keys should not carry over. See Trusted withdrawal addresses.
